Ryan Gosling is giving his vocal chords a rest in The Fall Guy.

The actor, 43, may be stepping into Colt Seavers’ fabled shoes in the upcoming film (an adaptation of the Lee Majors-led 1980s series of the same name), but he won’t be channeling his vocals.

While chatting with PEOPLE at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival — where he received the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film — on Saturday, Gosling revealed that he will not be singing The Fall Guy theme song, “The Unknown Stuntman,” originally performed by Majors, 84.

“I'm not, but it's in the film and a pretty great artist sings it,” the actor tells PEOPLE, seemingly referring to Blake Shelton, who will be offering a contemporary rendition of the track for the film.

“I'm excited for people to hear it,” Gosling adds of the cover.

This revelation comes on the heels of a very musical year for Gosling, who has previously proved his vocal chops with his lauded La La Land role and spooky rock duo Dead Man's Bones — not to mention the viral dance recital routine he performed at age 12.

In 2023, Gosling won the world over with his epic Barbie power ballad, “I'm Just Ken,” which not only cracked the Billboard Hot 100 but also received a Grammy nod for best song written for visual media.

And while Gosling will not be channeling Majors musically in his upcoming action flick, which also stars Emily Blunt, he says he's maintained a friendship with the veteran actor since meeting him on set.

“[Majors] came out to Australia and I had an opportunity to talk to him and spend the day with him,” Gosling tells PEOPLE, adding that the experience “was pretty great.”

The Barbie star also says that he and Majors, who played Seavers for five years on the original series, are “text buddies” and still keep in touch — which he finds “pretty cool.”

“He's so funny and he's very lovely and gracious,” Gosling adds.
