‘Ruthless Aggression’ Season 2 Trailer: The Rock Returns to a Whole New WWE (Exclusive Video)

·2-min read

WWE’s “Ruthless Aggression” era did more than take John Cena out of Gold’s Gym ads and drop him in the middle of a wrestling ring, and that’s why we need a second season of the WWE Network docuseries of the same name.

TheWrap can exclusively debut the “Ruthless Aggression” Season 2 trailer, which will remind you of a time when not everybody universally loved Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It was also a time of immense creativity, as some of the neatest new match types since the Royal Rumble were invented.

Watch the trailer via the video above.

Narrated by “SmackDown” announcer Pat McAfee, the five-episode second season will bear witness to The Rock’s acting career crossover. It wasn’t always such a popular move: By the time Johnson returned from filming “The Rundown” and “Walking Tall,” fans had flipped on the charismatic wrestler.

(Don’t worry, Rocky got those fans back — in more ways than one.)

Johnson wasn’t the only high-profile WWF wrestler to return from hiatus during this era. The Ruthless Aggression period, generally considered from 2002 to 2008, also saw the resurrection of Shawn Michaels, as a more humble version of the Heartbreak Kid got another chance to add to his legendary career.

Viewers will also be able to relive the first revolution of women’s wrestling, as superstars like Trish Stratus and Lita break down doors and set a new standard for the industry. Plus, the Elimination Chamber was constructed, and ladders repurposed for the Money in the Bank concept.

Finally, viewers will learn about the early days of WWE’s developmental system – from NXT predecessor Ohio Valley Wrestling to new ventures like reality competition “Tough Enough.”

Participants in Season 2 include John Cena, Batista, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Hulk Hogan, Rob Van Dam, Edge, Goldberg, Trish Stratus, Torrie Wilson, Kane, Mick Foley, Lita, Randy Orton and Kurt Angle, among others.

WWE’s Ruthless Aggression era followed WWE’s Attitude Era. It derived its name (in retrospect, of course) from Cena’s first promo in WWE.

“Ruthless Aggression” Season 2 premieres Sunday, Nov. 21 on Peacock (in the U.S., that is, as WWE Network still exists as a standalone service elsewhere). The entire season will be made available the following day.

If that Nov. 21 date looks familiar to you, that’s because it is the same day WWE’s pay-per-view “Survivor Series” will take place (on those same platforms).
