Russia's Putin meets Iran's Raisi for talks in Tehran

STORY: Putin first held talks with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, but will also hold bilateral talks with Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as with Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The trip marks Putin's first face-to-face meeting with a NATO leader since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began, with Erdogan part of trilateral talks to discuss a deal aimed at allowing the resumption of Ukraine's Black Sea grain exports, as well as peace in Syria.

Putin's trip, which comes just days after U.S. President Joe Biden visited Israel and Saudi Arabia, sends a strong message to the West about Moscow's plans to forge closer strategic ties with Iran, China and India in the face of Western sanctions.
