Russians continue attempts to surround Avdiivka as Ukrainians continue push towards Melitopol

Over 60 combat engagements took place in various sectors of the frontline on Oct. 27 as Russian troops continued their attempts to encircle Avdiivka, the Ukrainian military’s General Staff said in its morning update on Facebook.

The enemy also conducted unsuccessful offensives on the Bakhmut, Maryinka, Shakhtarsk, and Zaporizhzhya sections of the front, the General Staff said. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue offensive operations in the Melitopol sector.

  • On the Kupyansk and Lyman sections of the front, the enemy was regrouping troops, but did not conduct offensive (assault) actions. At Bakhmut, the enemy tried unsuccessfully to regain lost positions near Andriivka, where Ukrainian defenders repelled five enemy attacks.

  • Meanwhile, the Ukrainian defense forces continue their assault operations south of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy and consolidating their positions.

  • On the Avdiivka axis, the occupation forces continue to try to surround the town, but Ukrainian defenders are holding steadfast, and inflicting significant losses on the enemy, the General Staff said.The Russians conducted unsuccessful offensives in the areas of Stepove, Avdiivka, and Pervomaiske in Donetsk Oblast, where the defense forces repelled 15 enemy attacks.

  • On the Maryinka section of the front, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault operations in the areas of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka in Donetsk Oblast. Ukrainian troops repelled over 20 enemy attacks there.

  • On the Shakhtarsk section of the front, Ukrainian defenders repelled all enemy attacks near Vodyane, Zolota Nyva, and Staromayorske in Donetsk Oblast.

  • On the Zaporizhzhya section of the front, the enemy tried to regain its lost position northwest of Verbove in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, but was unsuccessful.

  • At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continued to conduct an offensive operation on the Melitopol axis in southern Ukraine, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces and exhausting the enemy along the entire front line.

  • In Kherson Oblast, Ukrainian troops are engaged in counter-battery combat, inflicting fire on the enemy's rear.

Russian troops continue to use terror tactics, launching missile and air strikes and firing from multiple rocket launchers not only at military but also at civilian targets.

The enemy launched eight missile and 15 air strikes over the last day, and fired 61 times from multiple launch rocket systems at Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas.

The Russians also launched another air strike against Ukraine yesterday, using four Kh-59 aircraft missiles, an Iskander-M ballistic missile, S-300/400 anti-aircraft guided missiles, and Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs. Air defense forces destroyed most of the Shaheds and three Kh-59 missiles.

However, Russian attacks have resulted in civilian deaths and injuries. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian aviation conducted five strikes on clusters of personnel, weapons, and military equipment over the past day, and four more on enemy air defense systems.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces missile units hit four clusters of enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment, as well as eight artillery pieces, two ammunition depots, a TOS-1A Solntsepek heavy flamethrower system, and three Russian air defense systems.
