“RuPaul's Drag Race” star Roxxxy Andrews doesn't like your bus stop jokes: 'It's not funny'

"Make fun of something else," the "All Stars 9" queen says in an exclusive interview with EW.

If you have a mean joke to make about a bus stop in Roxxxy Andrews' presence, the RuPaul's Drag Race season 5 and All Stars 2 icon wants you to keep trucking in the other direction.

In an exclusive interview about her past (and future) on the show, the returning All Stars 9 queen tells Entertainment Weekly that fans' repeated jokes about the emotional moment she opened up to RuPaul about her mother leaving her at a bus stop as a child "absolutely" still sting all these years later.

"The reason being, that was probably one of the saddest moments of my life. So, when I shared that on Drag Race, I loved it, because you always think of those moments you can be helping somebody else. Which, I have heard from those people whenever I get to meet them," Roxxxy explains. "If someone jokes about it, if you're close to me and I know you're saying it from a place of not trying to harm me and make fun of my tragedy, I don't mind it. But, if you're someone I've never met or on Instagram and tag me at a bus stop and say, 'Thinking of Roxxxy.' Like, really? That's what you want to say to me?"

The Florida-based entertainer adds that she's gone after a handful of people who've made a quip about the moment online.

"They're like, 'Oh, I didn't mean offense!' And I'm like, but I don't know you, and that's not funny. If your mom died, do you want me to make fun of your mom that died?" asks Roxxxy. "It's not funny. Make fun of something else. Make fun of me being mean to Jinkx [Monsoon on season 5]. Let's try something, go down another alley. But, if you feel the need to have to make a joke, then make it. I'm not going to see it, but make it."

She stresses that, in some instances, the jokes are okay. Like when her All Stars 2 sister Katya used the moment to "read" Roxxxy during the fan-favorite library challenge back in 2016: "Roxxxy Andrews, I think about you all the time," Katya said on the episode. "Especially in the morning, at the bus stop."

"I knew Katya, and Katya had asked about the joke," Roxxxy recalls. "Make a joke. I know it's not coming from ill intent. If I don't know you, I don't know that, so, first thing for me is to want to jump on you."

Back on Drag Race season 5 in 2013, Roxxxy fronted one of the most memorable episodes in the show's her-story when, after a jaw-dropping wig reveal during a lip-sync against Alyssa Edwards, Roxxxy broke down and revealed her past to Mama Ru.

"It just hit me. Not feeling wanted and not being good enough. I just feel like my mom never wanted me. My mother left my sister and myself at a bus stop when I was three, and I remember it like it was yesterday," Roxxxy said through tears, prompting panelist Michelle Visage to cry as well. "I come off as this strong character, I try to say so strong but I'm so weak and I'm so tired. It just hurts that I was left, nobody cared."

RuPaul responded with maternal grace, tearing up as she replied: "We love you, and you are so welcome here. We as gay people, we get to choose our family, you know? We get to choose the people that we're around. You know what I'm saying? I am your family. We are a family here. I love you."

Roxxxy also teases that the more entertaining side of her Drag Race legacy might return on AS9 — including potential references to her legendary roast character, Tasha Salad, and she may or may not do a runway look in tribute to the rhinestone top she famously lent Alaska on All Stars 2.

And yet, it's Roxxxy's progression through the art form that might have fans gagging the hardest.

"[I was] always scared to get ugly because that wasn’t what I knew drag to be. There’s going to be a lot of ugly, there’s going to be a lot of different Roxxxy that people haven’t seen," she promises. "There’s a certain episode I can’t talk about, but, let me tell you, when it comes out, y’all are going to know. You’re going to remember this moment. Ugly, very.... Bloody. Gory. Think Dragula, but Drag Race, on Roxxxy."
