Royal Navy Vessels Patrol Waters Amid Fisherman Dispute

Two Royal Navy vessels are patrolling the waters around Jersey amid concerns of a possible blockade of the island’s main port due to French fishermen protesting over post-Brexit fishing rights. About 60 French and Jersey boats are currently blocking the Island’s St Helier port. The French fishers are outraged over new licensing rules introduced last week that restrict the number of days they can operate in shared waters. French authorities have also argued that the “new technical measures” had not been communicated to the EU. The French government have even warned of cutting off island’s electricity amid the escalating row. Senator Ian Gorst revealed in a statement on Wednesday night that they “will continue to liaise closely with UK and EU officials over the coming hours and days to achieve a pragmatic solution.” .
