Many fans of the royal family will know that when it comes to appearances, there are some rules that need to be followed. Though it seems silly, there are certain sartorial guidelines that apply for the sake of tradition, like holding purses in their left hands, wearing tights with skirts and dresses, and dressing little ones in shorts rather than pants.

One rule in particular that has gained attention in the media is that colourful nailpolish is not allowed for any official appearances. According to OK Magazine, natural nails and light shades of polish reign supreme, and over the years there’s one colour that stands out as a royal favourite: Essie’s Ballet Slippers.

Worn by Queen Elizabeth for the past 30 years, as well as on both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle throughout their time in the spotlight, it’s a tried and true shade of pale pink polish with a subtle, sheer finish. While there’s nothing wrong with sticking to the classics, Essie recently released an updated version as part of its Remixed Originals collection.

Celebrating six timeless shades that have come to define the brand, Essie’s newest collection of polishes gives them a modern makeover. In an homage to Ballet Slippers, Ballet Sneaker takes the original soft pink shade and updates it with a matte finish and full-coverage colour.
