A tornadic storm whipped through Blacksburg, Virginia, on Tuesday, August 31, as the remnants of storm Ida brought wind, rain, and flooding to parts of Virginia, Washington, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
The National Weather Service’s Blacksburg office posted this video of menacing clouds and rain. “A look at the tornadic storm passing by our office earlier today. Very obvious rotation as it passes,” the office said, adding that the video had been sped up to 15 times normal speed.
The National Hurricane Center said Ida, which was previously downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone, reached “extratropical” status by Wednesday morning with the possibility for life-threatening flash flooding. Credit: NWSBlacksburg via Storyful
