A restaurant building in the Kensington area of northwest Calgary was damaged by fire late Monday night.

Crews arrived around 10 p.m. after receiving reports of smoke and fire coming from the roof of the building at the corner of 10th Street and Kensington Road N.W., officials said in a release.

With the flames spreading and the large volume of smoke, a second alarm was called.

"Ladder trucks were used to safely gain access to the roof where firefighting efforts were focused and brought the fire under control," the release said.

No one was inside the building at the time and there were no injuries. The property is occupied by Fusion Sushi and Thai, and Osteria Italian Restaurant.

Crews stayed at the scene overnight to ensure the fire didn't flare up again. The Calgary Fire Department fire investigator is looking into the cause of the blaze.

Officials are asking for anyone with video or photos of the fire, especially before emergency crews arrived, to email them to piofire@calgary.ca.
