Cristiano Ronaldo is attempting to bully Man Utd into selling him this summer, according to former England international Trevor Sinclair.
The Red Devils continue to insist that Ronaldo is not for sale this summer after the Portugal international asked to leave the club if a ‘satisfactory offer’ comes along.
Meetings between him, Erik ten Hag, his agent and other Man Utd officials apparently ‘failed’ on Tuesday with Man Utd still insisting he will not be sold and Ronaldo not budging from his stance.
Ronaldo said those reports were a “lie” via Instagram. In response to a post outlining the details, the striker said: “Impossible not to talk about me one day.
“Otherwise the press makes no money. You know that if you don’t lie you can’t get people’s attention. Keep going that one day you get some news right.”
Despite his claims on Twitter, it still seems likely that Ronaldo is looking for a move away from the club this summer and Sinclair thinks Man Utd are on the verge of “getting bullied”.
“He is holding the club to ransom,” Sinclair told talkSPORT. “Can you imagine a player doing this to Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp?
“Antonio Conte, Thomas Tuchel… we saw how he handled the Romelu Lukaku situation, he wasn’t having any of his shenanigans.
“Even Mikel Arteta, a young manager, told Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, his star player, ‘You’re not playing, I’ll get you out of here as soon as I can’.
“In this situation, Ronaldo is trying to leave, Erik ten Hag is new in the job, it’s a difficult situation, but I don’t want to see United getting bullied.
“I think that’s what Ronaldo is trying to do. I’ve always been brought up that no player is bigger than the club and if United heed to his demands, they’re proving they can be bullied off a footballer.”
There is still the possibility that Man Utd could bring in a striker this summer to ease the burden on Ronaldo – who scored 24 goals in 38 matches last term – or replace the 37-year-old if they decide to sell him.
RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko is reportedly one name on their list with the Manchester Evening News claiming that United’s football director John Murtough ‘met the agent’ of the Slovenia international last week.
The MEN add: ‘It is understood Murtough rendezvoused with Sesko’s agent, Elvis Basanovic, last Wednesday to gauge the possibility of a transfer.’
They reckon Man Utd are still looking to sign up to two more attacking options with Ajax winger Antony – who is valued at €80m by the Dutch club – one of their top targets.
