Statues, busts, and carvings are back on display
after decades gathering dust in a Rome basement
Loc: Villa Caffarelli, Rome
CURATOR, SALVATORE SETTIS:
"The Torlonia Museum was one of the most important museums in Rome for quite a long time, from 1875 through to World War Two, then it disappeared in some way. This is an opportunity to see a number of works that are extremely important, that everybody knows from books but nobody has seen. So I think that the reappearance of such a legendary collection will be a very important event."
Some pieces date back thousands of years
to ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome
