The Romantic Reason Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Returned to the Chapel Where They Got Married
It's been almost three decades since Kelly Ripa eloped with Mark Consuelos in Las Vegas, and the couple decided they'd return to the scene of their wedding for the most romantic reason.
During a special Las Vegas episode of Live With Kelly and Mark on February 28, the married duo took a trip down memory lane when they officiated a wedding at the Chapel of the Bells. The spot where the ceremony took place holds major significance for Kelly and Mark, as it's the same chapel they wed at back in May 1996. As the two reflected on their lives almost 28 years after getting married, they couldn't believe how much has changed since that fateful day.
"Do you remember how you were feeling on our wedding day?" Kelly asked Mark as they stood in the chapel.
"Some of those feelings came back as I drove up," he replied honestly. "I started getting sweaty."
But that wasn't all the co-hosts had to say about being back in their old romantic stomping grounds. Kelly and Mark also got nostalgic about how young they were when they decided to elope, marveling at how long their marriage has lasted.
"Do you recall who we were back then? What kind of personalities we had before we settled in?" Kelly asked Mark.
"We were 25 year olds," he answered back in disbelief. "Our [oldest] son's 26."
"Isn't that incredible?" Kelly added. "That doesn't make any sense!"
As Kelly and Mark got ready to surprise the lucky couple by performing their wedding ceremony, Mark couldn't help but elaborate on his own decision to marry Kelly.
"In a city where people roll the dice every day here, this is one of probably the safest bets I made," he concluded.
Kelly didn't leave the sweet walk down memory lane there. After the segment aired, she posted matching then-and-now photos of the couple gazing lovingly at one another, showing how much their love has grown.
"Viva Las Vegas ✨," she wrote on Instagram. "Then ➡️ Now."
As fans know, the couple wed in 1996 and Kelly gave birth to their oldest son Michael in June 1997. They later welcomed daughter Lola in June 2001 and son Joaquin in February 2003.
