Fabrizio Romano has tipped Arsenal to pursue a new winger following their failed attempts to sign Leeds United’s Raphinha.

The Gunners have been very active in the summer transfer window, bringing in Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner, Marquinhos and Auston Trusty.

They are expected to announce the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City as Mikel Arteta seeks more versatility in his squad.

The Ukrainian can operate as a left-back and a central midfielder and previously worked with Arteta during the Spaniard’s time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager.

Arsenal were very keen on signing Brazilian winger Raphinha from Premier League rivals Leeds, however, the 25-year-old ended up joining La Liga giants Barcelona.

And after failing to land one of their top targets, the north Londoners are expected to pursue another winger, despite having Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Fabio Vieira and Emile Smith Rowe already at the club.

This is according to renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who believes the Gunners will be “active” until the very end of the summer window.

“Arsenal will be active till the end, honestly,” Romano told The Action Network’s Wondergoal Podcast.

“(Youri) Tielemans is a player that they’ve always been interested in but let’s see what happens with wingers because they wanted Raphinha so they’ve been exploring other alternatives in that position.

“So if something good will appear in the market, it could be a possibility.

“So, Zinchenko is the priority but Arsenal are not done. So I expect them to move for other players.

“I’m told that Arteta is a big fan of this player (Zinchenko) and he’s looking for versatile players.

“This is why Arsenal wanted Lisandro (Martinez), who joined Man United, because Lisandro could play in many different positions.

“So Arteta is looking for this kind of players.”

Romano continued: “Arsenal have a very clear idea on the market.

“We know that for example, in January they wanted Dusan Vlahovic. They were not able to sign Dusan Vlahovic because the player wanted to join Juventus. And then they decided to wait. Wait in the market till June to sign Gabriel Jesus who was the second target.

“So, they’re not going to waste money on players that they don’t trust.”
