Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts dies aged 80

The Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts had died at the age of 80. He was one of the greatest drummers of his generation. A statement released by his publicist read, “it is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Charlie Watts. He passed away peacefully in a London hospital earlier today surrounded by his family" The drummer was treated for throat cancer in 2004. He'd been a member of the legendary rock group since January 1963 - and marked his 80th birthday in June. Earlier this month it was announced he would miss the band’s forthcoming US tour while he recovered from an unspecified medical procedure. Fans and celebrities have paid their respects online after hearing the sudden news.
