Rockets Fired After Israeli Airstrikes Kill Several in Gaza

Palestinian militants launched rockets into Israel on Friday, August 5, hours after an attack killed several people in Gaza, according to Israeli officials.

Earlier on Friday, Palestinian health officials reported that at least ten people were killed and 65 injured in Israeli airstrikes.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was carrying out strikes following "direct threats posed by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad” and a number of jihadists were “neutralized” during the initial strikes, and posted footage of other strikes shortly after.

Israel media outlet Haaretz, citing the IDF, said a senior commander with Islamic Jihad, Tayseer al-Jabari, was killed in the attack.

By Friday night, local media reported air raid sirens going off in central Israel, while the IDF posted footage showing rockets they claimed came from Gaza. Credit: Hamdan Dahdouh via Storyful
