'Rock Star of a Storm Chase': Weather Spotters Survey Tornado Damage in Texas

A tornado that touched down in Wise County, Texas, damaged buildings and uprooted trees on Wednesday, March 18, according to local media.

The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed the tornado around 9.25 pm on Wednesday. The NWS warned residents to seek shelter as the tornado approached other towns, including Chico and Alvord in Wise County. There have been no reported injuries, local media said.

Carl Cox, a storm chaser from Oklahoma, said he followed the storms into Texas to check them out, along with fellow weather enthusiast Dewayne Rippee. Footage shows a storm cloud near Jacksboro, Texas, as Cox traveled along US Route 380. Other video from Cox shows damage and debris strewn across the ground in nearby Alvord.

“We had a rock star of a storm chase today. 15 hrs and 791 miles. Almost hit a house that was strewn across the road. Felt good to get away from the virus stuff for awhile,” Rippee said on Facebook. Credit: Carl Cox via Storyful
