Robot fish could help clean the ocean

STORY: These robotic fish

eat microplastics

and may help clean

our oceans one day

They're only half an inch in size

and work in shallow water

RESEARCHER, SICHUAN UNIVERSITY, YUYAN WANG:

"In fact, we developed such a lightweight, miniaturized robot. It is designed with such an integrated function, so it can be used in many ways, for example, in biomedical or hazardous operations, such as a small robot that can be localized to a part of your body to help you eliminate some disease or whatever, these are the potential ideas that we want to provide."

Scientists hope they'll soon

work at deeper levels

and help collect information

on marine pollution in real time
