Robert Downey Jr. had a blast on the Primetime Emmy Awards red carpet.
The 59-year-old star, nominated for outstanding supporting actor in a limited series at the Emmys for his performance on HBO’s The Sympathizer adaptation, hit the carpet with wife Susan Downey as his date.
Posing for photos in a video shared by The Hollywood Reporter, he began joking with photographers shouting at the couple to smile. "I don't see you smiling!” he quipped.
Robert, wearing a dark blue suit with a matching silk shirt and tie, added to one photographer, “Let me see your — there we go, buddy. If we do it together, the world's a better place."

Susan, in a strapless gown of shimmery red sequins, laughed at her husband’s antics. The producer, married to the Oppenheimer Oscar winner since 2005, has been his date to countless red carpet events.

When speaking to PEOPLE about their almost-20-year marriage, Susan told PEOPLE in March about the rules she and Robert follow. “We do have a two-week rule, which often feels too long, but we don't go more than two weeks without seeing each other and the family being together,” she said.
“Fortunately, we prefer to be a traveling circus when we can be,” she added of their family. Susan and Robert share son Exton, 12, and daughter Avri, 9, while the Avengers star is also dad to musician Indio, 31, from a previous marriage.

The Sympathizer, from creators Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar, features Robert in several roles. His is the sole Emmy nomination for the miniseries, which stars Hoa Xuande, Toan Le, Sandra Oh and more.
