Rob Delaney Says Hugh Jackman Did ‘800 Press-Ups’ in a Single Day on “Deadpool & Wolverine” Set

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool/Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine/LoganHugh Jackman's workouts to get in shape to play Wolverine shocked his Deadpool & Wolverine costars, including Rob Delaney.
Delaney, who plays Peter "Sugar Bear" in the upcoming third Deadpool movie, told Virgin Radio UK on Thursday, July 11, that he was taken aback by Jackman’s athletic build and dedication to getting fit.
“Hugh Jackman, right? He’s so ripped and muscular and sleeveless and often shirtless and that he’s a very nice guy,” Delaney, 47, said. “I thought that the superhero muscles in these movies were like cosmetics. Not that they weren’t literally on your body, but that they were more about show than strength.”
Delaney said he watched Jackman partake in his intense workout routine between takes.
“Hugh Jackman would routinely drop to the floor and do press-ups. I saw him do 800 press-ups in one day, and they’re slow and perfect form,” he explained. “So literally, if a bus fell on you and he was there, you wouldn’t have to worry. He would promptly remove it from you and you’d be okay.”

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine/Logan in "Deadpool & Wolverine."in a joint interview with Reynolds, Jackman told PEOPLE he was “thrilled” to play Wolverine again, but his “body was a little sore at the beginning.”
“But I was thrilled that my body was still responding. And I realized how good it is for your brain. But the hardest bit... the food,” Jackman admitted, noting that his increased diet to maintain his physicality was the most difficult aspect of returning to the character.
“I have to eat a lot,” Jackman told PEOPLE. “For me, for my body type, I'm naturally skinny. To get the size on, that's the hardest bit. That's the bit that does my head in.”
“Yeah, the five, six meals a day, which sounds great to some people," Reynolds, 47, said. "I'm sure they're like, ‘Well, that sounds great.’ But it's not like the type of food that you would really necessarily enjoy.”
Reynolds complimented Jackman's “relentlessness” and dedication “towards stunts, choreography.”
