Roads Left Inundated by Deadly Queensland Flooding as Heavy Rains Batters State

Police said at least one person was killed in Queensland, Australia, as flooding brought on by heavy rain continued to hit the state on January 8.

Queensland Police confirmed a man died after his vehicle became submerged in flood waters on the night of January 7, at Kanigan, on the state’s Fraser Coast region.

The 22-year-old Sunshine Coast man, was found dead inside the vehicle on Saturday morning.

Major flood warnings remained in place for areas surrounding the Mary River and Barambah Creek, with local media reporting some areas received up to 650 millimetres (25.5 inches) of rain in 24 hours.
