General Motors Chief Executive Mary Barra is betting that moving more slowly than Tesla or Ford to accelerate electric vehicle production for North America will be more profitable in the long run. Suppliers familiar with GM's production plans through 2025 support the notion the automaker continues to slow-walk electric vehicle investment and output while it continues to bank money from its big combustion-engine pickups and SUVs. GM plans to build just 170,000 EVs at its plants in the U.S., Canada and Mexico in 2023, and 285,000 in 2024, according to data gathered by AutoForecast Solutions, which expects the automaker's EV production to remain under 500,000 in 2025 - about half of its actual capacity of 1 million.

Reuters reported in October Tesla is under criminal investigation over claims that the company's electric vehicles could drive themselves.

UK auto supplier Aurrigo International Plc made a conscious decision nearly a decade ago to develop slow-moving autonomous vehicles (AVs) in order to conserve cash, which has led to a focus on automating baggage dollies for loading planes at airports. "We decided on day one we couldn't make something that would travel at 70 miles an hour and go everywhere," said David Keene, chief executive of Aurrigo, which is based in Coventry, part of England's automotive heartland. Aurrigo has a traditional auto business providing everything from wiring systems and center consoles to exterior trim or key fobs to Volkswagen AG luxury unit Bentley, Tata unit Jaguar Land Rover and Aston Martin.

A pretty wild scene played out at an urban park in Singapore recently, when a raft of otters faced off with a cobra.Footage recorded by Jocelyn Chng shows an equatorial spitting cobra sizing up the smooth-coated otters. The otters can be seen popping out of the water and surrounding the snake before retreating back into the water.A later clip shows the snake moving off.Chng told Storyful the otters are “very curious animals and will often approach or try to interact with other animals that they encounter, including monitor lizards, red-eared sliders, birds, and dogs.”“Some of the otters went up the river bank to try and investigate the cobra further, which caused the cobra’s defensive reaction of raising his/her hood and hissing at them. Eventually the otters went back into the water and the cobra slid away, both continuing on their way,” Chng said.Smooth-coated otters are native to Singapore and listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The equatorial spitting cobra is also commonly found in Singapore, and can be encountered in leafy suburbs and high-density housing areas.
