United States Capitol Police locked down the entire complex after protesters breached its confines and confronted law enforcement inside.
Thousands of demonstrators had gathered in Washington to protest the results of the 2020 presidential election. Congress was due to certify the election of Joe Biden as president on January 6, but was forced to recess as rioters stormed the building.
