Protesters Gather for Second Night at Richmond Police Headquarters

Police used chemical irritants, flash-bangs and pepper spray to disperse protesters outside the police headquarters in Richmond, Virginia, on a second night of demonstrations on June 15. Witnesses also said rubber bullets were used.

Video by local reporter Andrew Ringle shows smoke canisters falling at the feet of protesters, dispersing the crowd as police approach using pepper spray.

The Washington Post reported that police “fired numerous canisters” that cleared a crowd of “200 to 300 people” who had converged on police headquarters, but had been held back by “riot police, an armored vehicle and a line of city dump trucks”.

The protest was a repeat of scenes seen the previous night, which were sparked by an incident in which a city police vehicle struck several demonstrators on June 13. Credit: Andrew Ringle//The Commonwealth Times via Storyful
