Richard Simmons Is Back! After Years of Silence, He's Chatty Again — and Revealing Which Star Asked Him to 'Shut Up'
The beloved fitness icon spilled some tea on an X thread about his daytime talk show appearances throughout the '90s and '00s
If you want some hot tea, give Richard Simmons a cup.
The fitness star shared some behind-the-scenes tidbits from his time on the daytime talk show circuit this week on X, spilling on his visits to Martha Stewart, Rosie O'Donnell and Phil Donahue, among others.
Simmons, 75, is currently working on his biopic, and has been sharing some memories with fans and followers along the way.
Of his stop at the Martha Stewart Show, Simmons said, "This lady is so talented I think she has butter and pastry cream in her veins." Her craft of the day on that particular show?
"She took a bunch of celery cut the bottom and then placed it in red ink," he shared. "She pressed it on a piece of paper and it looked like a red rose."

Later in the show, Simmons took two carrots and put them on his head "like horns," he recalled. "She looked at me and said, 'Richard can you behave.' "
Simmons called himself "too much" and "too bubbly" for Phil Donahue, and same for Charlie Rose. "He didn't stare at you," Simmons said, "he stared through you."
But one of his wilder memories came from a visit to The Wendy Williams Show.
"I was in my dressing room singing. All of a sudden someone was pounding on my door," he wrote. "I opened it to find a man who looked like a bodyguard. He said, 'Nicki Minaj is putting on her make up and you are disturbing her.' He said 'shut up.' As Steve Martin would say... Well....excuse me...."
Another major moment came from his visit to The Rosie O'Donnell Show when he was promoting his low-calorie dessert book, Sweetie Pie. While setting up, he saw the day's other guest tasting his desserts — none other than Céline Dion.
"While we were talking I bent my knees and scooped her up in my arms. We all had a chuckle," he said.

"Years later I was invited to see Ms Dion in Las Vegas," he continued. "Ms Dion’s assistant was so nice to me and told me that she was getting married. I asked her for her address and sent her a vintage wedding bag encrusted in baby pearls."
He sat next to Dion's husband, René Angélil, during the Vegas concert, shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries. "Now he is in heaven listening to his wife singing," Simmons concluded his dishy thread, adding, "To be continued...."
