Retiring RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons Applauded Leaving Headquarters for the Last Time

The New South Wales Rural Fire Service has farewelled retiring commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons on April 30 after 12 years in the job and just months after the state’s worst fire season.

Fitzsimmons will head the new New South Wales state disaster agency Resilience NSW.

Bushfires ravaged the state in late 2019 and early 2020, with more than 11,400 bush and grass fires burning more than 5.5 million hectares, the equivalent of 6.2% of the state. Credit: NSWRFS via Storyful
