Video streamed via Facebook Live by local resident Beth Splawn shows damage to homes and debris covering roadways in Sargent, a coastal town in Matagorda County. Splawn told Storyful she took this video driving along Heron Road on Tuesday morning.
Hurricane Nicholas made landfall as a Category 1 storm early Tuesday morning on the eastern Matagorda Peninsula, bringing maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported.
Nicholas was downgraded to a tropical storm and forecast to bring heavy rainfall and life-threatening flooding to the upper Texas coast, Louisiana, southern Mississippi, and southern Alabama through mid-week, according to the NHC. Credit: Beth Splawn via Storyful
