Michigan’s Edenville and Sandford dams overflowed following heavy rainfall on May 19, forcing the evacuation of communities downstream.
The National Weather Service issued a flash-flood warning for the length of the Tittabawassee River after the dam breaches, which followed days of heavy rain in Michigan, Illinois, and across the Midwest.
Local media reported that the evacuations would include the towns of Edenville, Sanford, and parts of the city of Midland, which is home to 42,000 people.
