Rescued Jaguar Has Fun Fishing Water Bottle From Pool at Sanctuary

A rescued jaguar had some fun – courtesy of a water bottle – at a South American animal sanctuary.

Footage by Natalia Cara de Medeiros shows the beautiful jaguar, which was rescued from the black market as a cub, fishing the bottle from a pool at La Senda Verde, an animal refuge in Yolosa, Bolivia.

“He used to love to swim, but now he doesn’t go into the water anymore. We were trying to convince him to, while he was in the enclosure’s switch area, and he became obsessed with a water bottle we were carrying,” De Medeiros told Storyful.

“So we decided to give it to him, putting it in the water, in the hopes that he would have to get in to fetch it. Well, he managed to fish it from the outside, but he had fun with it regardless,” she said.

According to De Medeiros, the bottle serves as environmental enrichment for the animal as well as being a fun toy, and said that it provides neural and physical stimulation to help “reduce stress and improve his well-being”.

De Medeiros told Storyful that the animal unfortunately won’t be able to be released back into the wild. Credit: Natalia Cara de Medeiros via Storyful
