KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — The Sultan of Selangor has consented to an audience with Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin.

Hamidin told national daily The Star that Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, informed him of the decision yesterday.

“I received a phone call from Datuk Munir at about 2:30pm on Friday, the day after I sent the letter requesting permission to meet with the Sultan.

“His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor has instructed him to accept the application I sent to Istana Bukit Kayangan, Shah Alam, on Thursday,” he was quoted as saying.

Hamidin said Munir had also informed him that Sultan Sharafuddin will be leaving for Sarawak and has other official engagements until the Maal Hijrah celebration on July 7.

“God willing, if there are no obstacles, the meeting with His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor will likely take place after July 7,” Hamidin stated.

On Wednesday, the Sultan of Selangor criticised the Malaysian Football League (MFL) and FAM members, especially Hamidin, for imposing the penalty against Selangor FC for sitting out the Charity Shield against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) shortly after star player Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim suffered an acid attack that left him with severe injuries.

The sultan called the initial penalty “excessive” and “inhumane”, especially as JDT was awarded a walkover victory and the Charity Shield as a result.
