Man Utd CEO Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough are now in ‘agreement over this summer’s targets’, according to reports.
Arnold replaced Ed Woodward earlier this season as CEO, while Murtough will now attempt to fix the Red Devils’ poor recruitment since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Man Utd had a disastrous campaign last season, despite bringing in Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane as new summer signings, with the club finishing 13 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham – who filled the final Champions League spot – and 35 points adrift of champions Man City.
Erik ten Hag has been hired as the manager this season and now it is Murtough’s responsibility to get the right players through the door to increase the Dutchman’s chances of success.
And now Goal claims that Murtough and Arnold have agreed their top three targets for the summer transfer window with Man Utd poised to start completing deals.
The report adds:
‘The pair are in agreement over this summer’s targets, with Frenkie de Jong seen as pivotal to the new manager’s system and Christian Eriksen a no-brainer, given his status as a free agent.
‘They also believe Ajax winger Antony will add another dimension up front.
‘Much of the groundwork has been laid for their business and incomings are now expected imminently.’
Man Utd have been trying to strike an agreement with Barcelona over De Jong for a while but have yet to make a breakthrough in negotiations, while there have been reports of interest in both Eriksen and Antony too.
Meanwhile, David Beckham has praised Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford – who has been criticised for his performances – for the work he has been doing off the field.
Beckham told The Overlap: “There is an excitement in this team. I talk about these players, about how they are more than just footballers, and what I love about this generation of players in particular in England is, with the power that they have on the field, they are trying to make change off the field.
“I see the work that Marcus has done, I see the work that Raheem has done and I see the work some other players have done in those positions. The things they are doing outside of the game is exceptional, really exceptional, because they are using their platform to drive and help others make a change.”
