Report: Pochettino ‘interested’ in Premier League job as pressure mounts on current manager
West Ham United are ‘aware’ that Mauricio Pochettino is ‘available and interested’ in the managerial role at the London Stadium, according to a report.
Current Hammers boss David Moyes is under growing pressure after his side fell into the bottom three of the Premier League last weekend.
Saturday’s results could not have gone much worse for the Irons as Bournemouth, Everton and Southampton all won.
They had the chance to jump out of the relegation zone with a tricky trip to Tottenham, but were comfortably beaten 2-0.
Despite West Ham’s form this campaign, it is believed that Moyes has enough ‘credit in the bank’ to survive, even if his side are beaten at home by Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
There have been some reports that the Scot will be relieved of his duties should Forest leave east London with all three points, however.
West Ham have been extremely ambitious in the transfer market in recent years, signing Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta last summer for instance.
This means they are likely to be equally as ambitious in their search for Moyes’ successor, should he be sacked.
And former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss Pochettino has emerged as a potential candidate to take over at the London Stadium.
According to Football Insider, the Argentine is ‘keen’ on the Hammers job.
Should the club dismiss Moyes, they know Pochettino would be ‘interested’ and is importantly available after leaving PSG last year.
The same source have also linked former Liverpool and Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez with Moyes’ job.
West Ham apparently ‘made contact’ with the experienced Spaniard – who has been out of work after being sacked by Everton over a year ago.
Benitez has ‘admirers’ in the Irons boardroom, with an ‘active’ search taking place to ‘assess’ potential replacements for Moyes.
The ex-Toffees manager is ‘keen’ to return to the Premier League after his woeful spell at Goodison Park.
However, he wants a ‘long-term’ contract that is unlikely to be offered by the West Ham hierarchy.
The report states that the recent death of co-owner David Sullivan ‘weakened Moyes’ position’ as he was a ‘strong advocate of the manager behind the scenes and would frequently offer him private support and encouragement’.
