KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 — Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob might not defend his post in the coming party polls.

The former prime minister and Bera MP said he is considering making way for the younger generation of leaders, Sinar Harian reported today.

“I also have no idea who’s going to contest for the vice-presidency. But if there are new faces who are ready to bring back Umno’s strength, I’m ready to give way for them.

“I want to see the list of candidates, manifestos, and reforms to the party. If someone can bring something better than what I have, I’m ready to give them a chance,” he was quoted as saying.

The country’s biggest political party will be holding its election next month.

All eyes are on the polls for the Umno divisions and its supreme council on March 18, following the sacking and suspension of 44 people including former Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, former vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, and former Selangor chief Tan Sri Noh Omar.
