KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an allocation of RM95 million for the purpose of upgrading about 600 dilapidated quarters, police stations and also General Operations Force (PGA) outposts.

Among the problems cited were clogged toilets, ceiling leakage, damaged doors, and damaged structures due to rotten wood.

The situation also forced occupants to fork out their own funds for the purpose of maintenance and repairs as they did not want the damage to get worse.

According to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razaruddin Hussain, the increased allocation announced by the prime minister is seen as appropriate in an effort to improve the comfort of police and officers.

He said 464 police stations, quarters, barracks, and other assets nationwide that are affected will be the focus of the upgrades.

“From that number, 231 assets are in a serious state of disrepair.

“The allocation will also be used to upgrade a total of 151 PGA outposts, mainly in Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan and Selangor,” Razaruddin said in a Utusan Malaysia report.

On Saturday, Anwar had also announced an allocation of RM150 million for the maintenance of facilities of agencies under the Home Ministry to ensure the comfort of the country’s security forces personnel.

Anwar reportedly said the government approved an allocation of RM45 million specifically for repairs and upgrading work and the procurement of equipment at 117 General Operations Force (GOF) control posts and RM40 million for Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom)-related infrastructure and facilities.

He had also approved RM15 million for repairs to quarters and facilities under the Prisons Department.
