Report: Eagles trading for former All-Pro Titans safety Kevin Byard
The Philadelphia Eagles are trading to acquire safety Kevin Byard from the Tennessee Titans, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
The 2-4 Titans will receive safety Terrell Edmunds and fifth- and sixth-round draft picks in return, per the report.
Byard, 30, is a two-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler. He was last named All-Pro in 2021. He'll provide an immediate upgrade in the secondary for a 6-1 Eagles team that ranks 18th against the pass and seventh overall in yards allowed per game. His arrival should help shore up an area of relative weakness for a team tied for the best record in the NFL.
The deal is the second high-profile trade between the two teams in recent years. The Eagles acquired Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Titans prior to the 2022 season. Brown was named second-team All-Pro in his first season in Philadelphia while tallying 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns on 88 catches as the Eagles made the Super Bowl. Brown's on an All-Pro pace again in 2023 with 52 catches for 809 yards and three touchdowns through seven games.
The Titans' decision to trade Brown rather than pay a then-24-year old Pro Bowler approaching his prime appeared to signal a sell-off of talent in Tennessee. Eighteen months after that draft-night trade, the exodus of talent from Tennessee continues with Byard joining Brown in Philadelphia.
Byard's played his entire seven-plus season career with the Titans since they selected him in the third round of the 2016 draft. He issued a statement Monday thanking the organization, his Titans teammates and fans.
