KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 — A special gathering of the Malay Rulers will be held at Istana Negara tomorrow, The Star reported this afternoon.

According to the news report, Yang Dipertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will be seeking the views of the other Malay state Rulers on the post-electoral deadlock that is delaying the formation of a new federal government and the appointment of a prime minister.

Citing palace sources, The Star reported the meeting is scheduled for 10.30am tomorrow.

It added that the Rulers will be briefed on legal procedures following a hung Parliament.

The Conference of Rulers is also scheduled to be held on November 28.

Sultan Abdullah had yesterday summoned the heads of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN), the two coalitions that garnered the most number of seats in the 222-seat Dewan Rakyat in last Saturday’s national polls.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassion who heads PN said the Agong had proposed a unity government between his coalition and PH, but added that he had rejected it on the grounds that he had the signed support of 115 elected representatives, which is more than the simple majority required to form government.

The Agong met several representatives from the Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Parti Sarawak coalitions this morning.

But neither the politicians nor the palace has issued any statement so far.
