Jillian Turecki is taking her advice about love to a new format.

The relationship coach, teacher and host of the Jillian on Love podcast will publish her debut book, It Begins With You: The 9 Hard Truths About Love That Will Change Your Life, forthcoming next year from HarperOne.

It Begins With You
will share nine core truths about love and self-acceptance in an effort to help improve readers’ relationships with themselves, per the book’s description. The author, whose work pulls from psychology, meditation and somatic practices, draws on her decades of client experience to uncover how to build toward rewarding relationships.

“I believe having some sort of purpose in life that includes contributing to the lives of others is what makes life meaningful, even when life is really hard,” Turecki tells PEOPLE. “I understand grief more than I care to, I’ve endured hours of unproductive couple’s therapy that never got to the heart of the matter, I had an incredible mother who didn’t see her worth and parents who didn’t love each other.”

“I’ve been to hell and back and took all that pain and poured it into my 20-year study of human relationships, starting with our most important one — the one with self,” she continues. “What I birthed as a result was It Begins With You.”

The truths featured in the book cover a number areas, including self-love, self-worth and independence, as well as making peace with one’s family. Turecki notes that It Begins With You stemmed from wanting to explore the complexities of love for herself.

“I think one of the most misunderstood words in the English language is the word ‘love,’” she says. “Most people don’t understand what it means to truly love someone, and what it means to be truly loved. This is why so many of us struggle in relationships.”
