Regent's Park mosque stabbing: man in his 70s attacked during prayers

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing at a mosque in central London.

A knifeman is reported to have stormed into Regent's Park Mosque this afternoon and allegedly attacked a man in his 70s while he was carrying out the call to prayer.

Officers attended along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service. A man was found with stab injuries.

Scotland Yard said he was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital, where his condition was assessed as non life-threatening.

The incident came just hours after ten people were killed in what is being investigated as a terror attack in the German city of Hanau when a suspected far-Right gunman opened fire at two shisha bars.

Police have said they are still investigating the circumstances of the Regent's Park attack, however and do not yet believe it to be terror-related.
