Rees-Mogg Responds to Suggestion of Debate on Monarchy by Reciting National Anthem

Commons Leader Jacob Rees-Mogg gave a spoken-word rendition of God Save the Queen on Thursday, March 11, after he was urged to hold a debate on the monarchy amid a racism row involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

In asking for the debate, Conservative MP Sir David Amess reiterated his own support for Queen Elizabeth, saying the UK was “blessed to have had our monarch for 70 years”.

In response, Rees-Mogg said such a debate would take up several hours, and instead recited the anthem. Credit: Parliament TV via Storyful
