Reds rookie Jonathan India keeps raking after taking scary fastball to the head
Cincinnati Reds rookie Jonathan India is off to a great start.
Not even a fastball to the head can keep him down.
The Cincinnati second baseman was on the wrong end of a scary scene during Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. After knocking in a run with a sacrifice fly in his first at-bat, India took the plate in the third inning with the Reds in command of a 5-0 lead.
Fastball takes off India's helmet
Pirates pitcher Chad Kuhl unleashed a fastball up and in. India could not get out of the way. The pitch hit India squarely in the forehead, knocking off his helmet and sending him tumbling to the ground.
India seemed just fine
India, though, seemed unfazed. He quickly gathered himself, came to his feet and took first base after consulting with the Reds' training staff. On his next at-bat, he knocked in two more runs before getting tagged trying to leg out a double.
He also flashed his glove in the field.
So yeah. It seems India was just fine. He felt well enough after the 11-4 win for a postgame interview.
"I wasn't dazed at all," India told Bally Sports Cincinnati. "Just a little pissed. That's just anger taking over, adrenaline. I'm fine. I'm completely fine."
Former first-round pick off to great MLB start
For the day, India finished 1-for-2 at the plate with three RBI as the first-place Reds completed a three-game sweep of the Pirates to improve to 5-1.
India's been a big part of the hot start in Cincinnati and is now hitting .476 (10-for-21) with 10 RBI through his first six MLB games. The fifth pick of the 2018 MLB draft, the 24-year-old India is certainly living up to the hype to start his Cincinnati career.
