K-pop girl group Red Velvet dropped their latest EP The ReVe Festival 2022 - Feel My Rhythm on Monday (21 March).

The EP marks a renewal of The ReVe Festival, a music festival unique to Red Velvet — the previous release of The ReVe Festival was back in 2019. “ReVe” was named after an abbreviation for Red Velvet, which also means “dream” and “fantasy” in French.

Although Red Velvet has many summer mega-hit tracks which have earned them titles like “Summer Queens” and “Summer Unbeaten”, this time, they are returning as “Spring Queens”.

In pre-orders alone, the EP had already sold a total of 516,866 copies as of 20 March, setting the group’s highest record. With “Imagination Travel” as the main theme, the EP contains a total of six tracks, including the titular song, Feel My Rhythm.

The other five songs are R&B pop dance song Rainbow Halo; old school R&B Beg For Me; retro pop dance song Bamboleo; medium-tempo R&B Good, Bad, Ugly; and R&B ballad In My Dreams.

Feel My Rhythm is a pop dance song that is a sampling of Bach’s Air On The G String. It harmoniously combines elegant and delicate string arrangements with a strong trap beat. The lyrics describe travelling freely through time and space, highlighting Red Velvet’s unique concept and charm.

“Right off the bat, our track starts with the sampling of Air On The G String and the ballerina concept fits really well, showcasing our elegant side. And because Red Velvet is a team that pulls off various concepts, we were able to capture our graceful and classic image in this album,” Wendy described the softened feeling compared to the recent chic looks in the EP during an online press conference held on Monday.

Regarding their unprecedented sampling of classical music, Seulgi explained, “Air On The G String is perfect for spring and is a widely renowned song that is familiar to the public, so we decided to do a sampling of it for our new single.”

When asked about some memorable episodes while preparing for the EP, Seulgi shared, “We all recorded separately due to our individual schedules, so I couldn’t see what the other members were like when they were recording, but I remember just being really exhausted afterwards. The songs were all very difficult and there were a lot of high notes, so we all tried our best to perfect every little detail of the song. I remember seeing the members come out of the recording studio after they finished recording and they were all in a daze from giving their all. Please listen to the album to see how hard we worked!”

Yeri added, “We have never worn a dress this big [a ball gown] in a music video before. While filming the music video of Feel My Rhythm, we all had big dresses on and couldn’t move as we normally would. From sitting down with our legs to the side to walking around the set, everything felt different. There were funny moments from watching the members struggle. Also, in the music video, “Birdmen” made an appearance and it was fun to film with them as well.”

“For me, it was especially heartwarming to film with the members again after doing solo activities. It was nice to laugh and talk with the members in the waiting room. I felt happy and warm,” Joy said.

As for what they would like to achieve with this EP, Red Velvet hopes to build a stronger relationship with their fans. Seulgi revealed, “We were originally planning on holding a concert, but it, unfortunately, had to be postponed. I only hope we can soon hold an amazing concert for our fans. We all can’t wait for that moment!”

Yeri shared the same sentiments, “I just want to meet our fans as soon as possible! I miss them so much.”
