Reba McEntire Had Limited Experience with Gummies Before Accidentally Taking One with Her Mom: 'Maybe Once'
McEntire recently told a story about unknowingly taking a 25mg gummy while taking care of her late mom, Jacqueline
Gummies aren't part of Reba McEntire's everyday life.
The Queen of Country, 69, told a story on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon about accidentally taking a 25mg gummy while taking care of her late mom, Jacqueline, and opened up about having limited experience with psychoactive sweets.
"Maybe one time, you know, like two milligrams or something like that," said McEntire during the interview.
The "Fancy" singer accidentally overindulged on a gummy while taking care of her mom, Jacqueline, in January 2020, about two months before she died of bladder cancer in March of the same year.
At the time, Reba went to Oklahoma to spend time with Jacqueline and give her siblings, Alice, Pake and Susie, a break from looking after her. Alice instructed Reba to give Jacqueline a full gummy before bed, but she "wasn’t really comfortable with that."
"So, when we started going to bed, I said, ‘Mama, let’s get ahead of this pain. I’m gonna give you half of this,'" she explained. "She said, ‘Well, what do I do with it?’ I said, ‘Put it in between your cheek and your gum like a dip of Skoal or something,’ you know? So, she did, and boy, she just went to sleep."
Reba added, "I thought, ‘Well, shoot. Mama’s taking it. I need to see what she’s experiencing.’"
The Grammy winner took the other half and "went to sleep." In the middle of the night, Jacqueline woke up to use the bathroom — and her daughter realized just how much the gummy impacted her mental state.
"I threw back the covers — and that’s about as far as I got. And I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, I gotta help her. I’m gonna look like a wimp if I don’t,'" said Reba. "So, I thought I’m either gonna crawl over the bed or I’m gonna walk around."

The Happy's Place star successfully walked around to Jacqueline, who then asked her for a glass of ice water, but the kitchen was "a long way away." She quickly found herself imagining a potentially dark news headline: "Reba McEntire found in her mother's kitchen, ice all around."
"So, I just turned back to Mom, and I said, ‘Here you go.’ And she took a sip, and she said, ‘Ugh, where’s the ice?’ And I said, ‘We’re out.’ She said, ‘We’re out of ice?’ I said, ‘Yeah,'" continued Reba.
Once she got Jacqueline back in bed, the Voice coach "laid down" — and swore she saw "weeds and flowers growing out of my head."
"So, the next day I ask everybody, ‘How many milligrams were in those things?’" detailed Reba, who learned learned each full gummy contained "50" milligrams — likely of THC, but she didn't specify. "I took 25 milligrams. Gave my mom 25 milligrams. Still took care of Mama!"
The Reba actress' new sitcom, Happy's Place, airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and streams on Peacock — and she crafted its theme song with the legendary Carole King.
