'A Real Privilege': 82-Year-Old First to Get Oxford-AstraZeneca Vaccine

An 82-year-old dialysis patient became the first person to receive the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID vaccine at Churchill Hospital in Oxford, England, on January 4.

Brian Pinker was vaccinated by Sam Foster, chief nursing officer at Oxford University Hospitals. He has been having dialysis for kidney disease at the Churchill Hospital for a number of years, the local NHS trust said.

“I am so pleased to be getting the COVID vaccine today and really proud that it is one that was invented in Oxford,” Pinker said.

“The nurses, doctors and staff today have all been brilliant and I can now really look forward to celebrating my 48th wedding anniversary with my wife Shirley later this year,” he said. Credit: OUH via Storyful
