Newcastle United’s owners are reportedly interested in a move for Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar, who could be available on a loan-to-buy agreement this summer.

The former Barcelona attacker is widely considered to be one of the world’s best players on his day but has received backlash from PSG supporters recently.

Eddie Howe has expressed his desire to add ‘elite’ players to his squad, but it remains to be seen whether he will sanction a move for Neymar.

According to reputed transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, Newcastle’s majority shareholders want to make the Brazil international their ‘marquee signing.’

“It’s our understanding that Newcastle United’s majority shareholders PIF have a real interest in bringing Neymar to the Premier League. This is a real thing,” Bailey told the 90min Talking Transfers Podcast.

“Newcastle, for me, I think is an ideal fit for him in some ways. They want a left-sided forward. They want a marquee signing, they love Brazilians.

“It wouldn’t be a cheap deal, we’re being told PSG would want around £75 million, maybe a bit more.

“They won’t force a player onto Eddie Howe. They won’t make him take a player. But in Neymar’s case, he does tick a lot of boxes here.”

PSG ‘willing’ to let Neymar leave this summer

Now, according to a report from French outlet L’Equipe, Neymar could look to leave PSG this summer, and the club would ‘welcome’ his departure.

They add that they would be willing to accept a loan with option to buy deal as early as this summer. Considering his astronomical wages, it’s noted that only high-profile Premier League clubs would be able to afford Neymar.

Since their takeover, it’s fair to say Newcastle aren’t short of money at the moment. As a result, they are one of the few teams in Europe who could potentially sign off on such a deal.

Since signing for PSG in 2017, he has made 173 appearances across all competitions. In the process, he has scored 118 goals, as well as making 73 assists, this gives him a near-supernatural average of 1.13 goal contributions per game.

With that in mind, the 31-year-old certainly has the quality to take Newcastle to the next level. Also, commercially, he could help expand the North East club’s brand worldwide.

This story is still in it’s early stages, but if Newcastle could bring in Neymar, it’s fair to say he would be the club’s most high-profile signing for decades and possibly, in their entire history.
