Real Madrid are planning to sign Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and Bayern Munich wing-back Alphonso Davies if they don’t sign Kylian Mbappe next summer, according to reports.

Mbappe’s future has been the subject of intense speculation all summer amid his preference of a move to Real Madrid and he was recently barred from senior training amid a fraught stand-off.

He watched on from the stands as PSG began their Ligue 1 title defence in underwhelming fashion with a goalless draw against Lorient on August 12 – but he has returned to the matchday squad for the second and third matches of the season.

Mbappe returned to first-team training the week after the Lorient match, amid links the 24-year-old forward is ready to extend his contract with the club beyond next summer.

PSG said in a statement on their social channels: “Following very constructive and positive discussions between Paris St Germain and Kylian Mbappe before the PSG-Lorient game, the player has been reinstated into the first-team training squad this morning.”

Mbappe, who had been given permission to speak to Al Hilal after the Saudi Pro League club tabled a world-record bid of £259million last month, has just one year left to run on his existing PSG deal.

He has so far refused any extension and would be able to negotiate a free transfer in January but it has been reported he will commit to PSG until 2025, allowing the club to sell him to Real next summer.

However, Spanish publication Nacional claim that a move to Real Madrid next summer ‘will be completely ruled out’ by the La Liga side if Mbappe signs a new deal at PSG.

And Real Madrid president Florentino Perez ‘has already developed a strategy to invest the €300m (£258m) that he had reserved’ for signing Mbappe to sign ‘two world stars’.

Bayern Munich’s versatile wing-back Davies, who has also been linked with Man City, is his ‘first target’ with the Canada international ‘revealing his intention to leave the Bundesliga next year’ and that will ‘makes things easier for Madrid’.

And Perez’s ‘other objective’ is Man City striker Haaland with a feeling that the Norway international ‘fits the team’s needs better’ than Mbappe would.

In 2024, Nacional add that ‘a termination clause will be activated that will allow Haaland to pack his bags’ and join Real Madrid for €200m (£172m), although the price of the full ‘operation’ will come to €230m due to the ‘commissions that the 23-year-old footballer and his representative will receive’.

The other €70m of the €300m needed for Perez’s ‘incredible plan’ is reserved for Davies as the Real Madrid president looks to return to the days of Galactico signings.
