Real Madrid could become Arsenal and Liverpool’s worst nightmare this summer after a report revealed three potential transfers are in play that’ll make Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp wince.

Despite being 35, Karim Benzema remains one of the most effective strikers in world football. If there was ever any doubt, the Frenchman can point towards the 2022 Ballon d’Or on his mantlepiece.

Benzema is understood to have agreed a one-year extension that’ll keep him at the Bernabeu until the end of next season. However, a club like Real Madrid are rarely caught on their heels.

Indeed, speculation has begun to swirl over a new arrival at centre-forward. Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe would be true Galactico signings, though the fees each player will command may be beyond even Real Madrid.

Now, according to a Spanish report (as cited by both the Daily Mail and Football London), Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus is being eyed as a more viable striker signing.

The Brazilian, 25, was a £45m arrival from Man City last summer and slotted into Mikel Arteta’s frontline straight away.

Jesus quickly wowed English audiences with his all-around play and was just as effective when out of possession as in it.

A knee injury picked up with Brazil during the World Cup robbed him of over two months of Arsenal’s campaign to begin 2023.

However, he’s recently returned to fitness and will have a major say in whether Arsenal secure their first league title since 2004.

Losing Jesus is not a thought Arsenal will wish to consider. But per the report, Real Madrid intend to ask the question.

Los Blancos have determined three deals need to be made this summer, and Arsenal might not be the only English side affected.

Indeed, the report states president Florentino Perez wants a new central midfielder, a box-to-box midfielder, and a new striker.

Jesus would fill the final category and is viewed as a high calibre back-up to Benzema for next season before potentially taking his place in the eleven from 2024 onwards. Jesus’ ability to play out wide is also a factor heightening Real’s interest.

With regards to midfield additions, it’s Liverpool who could see their plans disrupted.

The Reds’ admiration of Jude Bellingham is no secret, though Perez is zeroing in on the England ace for the box-to-box role.

Real already have superb options for when the time comes for Toni Kroos and Luka Modric to step aside. Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga are already in situ, though Bellingham would add a more attacking dynamic to the midfield.

In the event Bellingham eludes them, Real have a target much closer to home in mind who, ironically enough, is wanted by both Liverpool and Arsenal.

Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga is the man in question, with the 20-year-old blazing a trail through the Spanish top flight this term.

Veiga won LaLiga’s player of the month award for February after notching two braces and an assist in the month. His deal at Celta contains a modest release clause worth €40m that Liverpool are reportedly prepared to activate this summer.

Arsenal too have been linked and are actually understood to be Veiga’s favourite overseas side.

But if Real get their way, both English sides will be left empty-handed this summer, and in Arsenal’s case with Jesus, a striker short too.
