Ready Player One sequel Ready Player Two is set for release later this year, having been delayed due to writer Ernest Cline's work on the movie adaptation, and its subsequent success affecting the direction.
Details about the plot have been kept under wraps, until last night's (October 9) virtual Comic-Con event hosted by former Star Trek and The Big Bang Theory star Wil Wheaton, who did the audiobook for the first book and will do the second one.
Cline emailed Wheaton the official plot synopsis – which he had never seen before – during the stream, which we have here for you: "An unexpected quest. Two worlds at stake. Are you ready?
PRE-ORDER – Ready Player Two
"Days after OASIS founder James Halliday's contest, Wade Watts makes a discovery that changes everything. Hidden within Halliday's vaults, waiting for his heir to find, lies a technological advancement that will once again change the world and make the OASIS more wondrous – and addictive – then even Wade dreamed possible.
"With it comes a new riddle and a new quest, a last Easter egg from Holiday, hinting at a mysterious prize, and an unexpected, impossibly powerful, new and dangerous rival awaits, one who will kill millions to get what he wants. Wade's life and the future of the OASIS are again at stake, but this time, the fate of humanity also hangs in the balance."
Although the synopsis doesn't say, we are sure that there will be loads of pop-culture cameos.
Actress Olivia Cooke previously revealed to Digital Spy that she's signed up for a sequel, so it's safe to assume that the other cast members are contracted for more as well.
Ready Player Two will be released in hardback, audiobook and ebook forms on November 24.
