A second man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a Digby County man in 2022.

Vernon Doucet, 64, was attacked in his home in Concession, N.S., in February 2022. He later died in hospital from his injuries.

On Tuesday, Nova Scotia RCMP announced Dillon Burton Deveau, 33, of Yarmouth had been charged with second-degree murder in Doucet's death. He appeared in Digby provincial court on Tuesday and is being held in custody, an RCMP news release said.

In June, police charged Tyler Colbert Andrew Langford, 33, of Weymouth with second-degree murder after a 28-month investigation.

Langford and Deveau are scheduled to appear in Digby provincial court on July 18.

Doucet's gravesite was vandalized shortly after the first charge was laid and police said at the time that they believed it was connected to the homicide. On Tuesday, police told CBC News the vandalism case is still open, but there is no new information to share.
