Raven-Symoné jokes she has 'PTSD' returning to “The View”, says she 'got a lot of scolding' over politics as a cohost

"When I get on this, I have PTSD, please don't ask me any questions!" Raven-Symoné said as she returned to "The View" for an interview.

Raven-Symoné joked that she had a That's So Raven-style flashback to emotional strife when she returned to sit at The View table for an interview after previously serving as a permanent cohost from 2015-2016.

The 38-year-old actress appeared Wednesday on the talk show, where she received a sustained ovation from the show's audience as she took her seat at the Hot Topics table.

"Does it feel good to be back here at all?" panelist Joy Behar — who worked with Symoné as a cohost during her short tenure — asked the star, who replied, "Um, certain things do! Actually, no, as you guys know, every time I come here, I have to come to this job maybe, like, 45 minutes early to say hi to everybody. And then when I get on this, I have PTSD, please don't ask me any questions!"

Symoné then took a sip from her View-themed mug bearing the faces of the current cohosts, quipping, "But I do love these cups! Good cups this season!"

After Behar shifted the conversation to current events by asking Symoné if she watched Tuesday night's VP debate, Symoné again joked, "I told you not to ask me questions, Joy!" She then confirmed she watched the matchup, and watches "a lot more politics now that I'm not on the show."

Behar told Symoné she didn't think the show focused on politics nearly a decade ago, as much as they do now — an assertion Symoné pushed back on when the 81-year-old asked if her former colleague agreed.

"Well, yes, I got a lot of scolding back in the day, that I'm not paying attention to it as much, but I watch it now for actual entertainment," she replied. "It is absolutely amazing and there are so many different ways you can go about it, but the one thing I wanted to say about it is if you're confused about who to vote for because certain policies sit certain ways, because like, yeah, there are some things I like about the Republican side and there are some things I like about the Democrat side, but ultimately I'm choosing the person that best represents me as a human to the rest of the world and what that looks like."

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for The View and Symoné for comment.

Symoné has maintained friendly correspondence with View moderator Whoopi Goldberg, as she welcomed the Oscar-winning actress to her The Best Podcast Ever With Raven and Miranda podcast in August 2023, where the pair laughed about Symoné's observation that Goldberg gave off "lesbian vibes."

Still, other cohosts who've departed the show have criticized the program, including controversial conservative personality Meghan McCain, who departed in 2021 following a high-profile on-air clash with Behar.

"For me, being on The View and being around so many people who've been on TV daily, for decades, I was like, I cannot live my life on camera like this anymore, because it's bad for me. It's bad for me emotionally," McCain said in November 2023.

Similarly, Rosie O'Donnell claimed on Brooke Shields' Now What? podcast in April 2023 that she had to "argue and defend basic principles of humanity and kindness" during her time as a cohost, citing tension with former producer Bill Geddie, who died in July 2023.

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/PT on ABC.
