Landman in turn joins Tulsa King‘s sophomore opener and the 1923 series premiere as the top three biggest season launches in Paramount+ history. It also delivered the most-watched U.S. premiere in Paramount+ history within its first three days.

TVLine readers gave Sunday’s series premiere an average grade of “A-“; read our full recap.

Based on the 11-part podcast “Boomtown” and starring Oscar winner Thornton, Landman is set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas and is a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs. The series promises “an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”

In addition to Thornton, the cast boasts Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan and Demi Moore, while Jon Hamm stars in a recurring guest role and Andy Garcia and Michael Peña guest-star.

Landman is executive produced by co-creators Sheridan and Wallace, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, Stephen Kay, Dan Friedkin, Jason Hoch, J.K. Nickell and Megan Creydt.
