(Un)Happy New Year, Fox: 2020 isn’t starting out the way 2019 ended for the broadcast channel. On Wednesday, Fox dared air original episodes of “Almost Family” and the time period premiere for Jenna Dewan’s “Flirty Dancing.” Both fell very flat in Nielsen numbers, and Fox finished in fourth place despite the English-language broadcast competition airing all reruns.
NBC, ABC and Univision tied for first in primetime ratings last night, each with a 0.4 rating/2 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic. NBC was first in total viewers with an average of 4.1 million, according to preliminary numbers. ABC was third with 1.9 million viewers and Univision was fifth with 1.3 million viewers.
Of some note, NBC re-aired its “Chicago” dramas crossover last night.
CBS and Fox tied for fourth in ratings, both with a 0.3/1. CBS was second in total viewers with 2 million, Fox was fourth with 1.4 million.
For Fox, the time period premiere of Jenna Dewan’s “Flirty Dancing” at 8 p.m. managed a 0.4/2 and 1.8 million viewers. The return of “Almost Family” at 9 settled for a 0.3/1 and 1.1 million viewers.
Yes, it was a holiday, but those are still pretty bad returns considering how the competition did with encores.
Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.2/1 and in viewers with 667,000.
The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.1/0 and in viewers with 495,000.
